How a server migration is planned
- Inventory: accounts, domains, mailboxes, databases, cron jobs and any custom configuration on the old server.
- Test migration: a copy of the accounts is moved first so sites can be checked on the new server before anything changes for visitors.
- DNS preparation: TTLs are lowered at least a day ahead so the final switch spreads quickly.
- Final sync and cut-over: a last sync of files, mail and databases, then DNS or IP changes at an agreed time.
- Verification: websites, SSL certificates, mail sending and receiving, cron jobs and file permissions are checked.
- Fallback: the old server stays available until you confirm it can be retired.
Cross-panel moves such as cPanel to DirectAdmin need extra mapping for mail forwarders, DNS templates and PHP settings, which is included in the quote.
